Amateur Radio Field Day Committee , River City Amateur Radio Communications Society

Summer 2013, Sacramento, CA

Field day is both a drill for Emergency Communications and a contest to see how many contacts can be made in a 24 hour period. As a member of the field day committee, I help assist in the Planning, Set Up and Tear Down of our club’s site for the annual ARRL / RAC Field Day Event.  This includes setting up solar panels, High Frequency Radio Transceivers, Antenna systems, and stations for operators. Testing coaxial cabling for continuity and performance.  Setting Up Network for centralized logging of contacts of stations. Negotiate which Stations will be on what bands throughout the day. Adjusting antenna systems for low standing wave ratio. Other smaller tasks involved too.  Requires both help guiding fellow club members on set up and taking instruction from superiors.  Other jobs include insuring proper paperwork is filed, stocking food and refreshments and talking with the public and media.  Also work as an operator as time allows.

Eagle Scout Project

Spring / Summer 1999,  Elk Grove, CA

My project was to clean up the Hilltop Cemetery between Bond and Waterman Road in Elk Grove, CA.  The Hilltop Cemetery, at the time, was considered a pioneer cemetery and a historic site.  The location was overgrown with weeds, Tombstones were in need of cleaning, and In general needed a lot of maintenance.  In order to implement this project I had to come up with a proposal to the Elk Grove – Comsumnes  Cemetery District in order to perform work on the cemetery.  The proposal had to lay out a budget for the project, the proposed dates of the project, and a basic environmental impact of the project.  During the actual project, I had to supervise volunteers, organize work groups, and insure completion of work.   After the project I had to write  a review of the project and meet with a panel to review my project.
